"While we teach, we learn," said the Roman philosopher Seneca. It has been exciting to see all the talented and helpful people who make our forum awesome. We have seen interesting discussions in addition to really great solutions to problems. We think it's a great place to learn as well as teach others the techniques and concepts that you have developed.
All this leads to eventually mastering Foundation, which is the technology that helps us make awesome products. We know getting validation for the skills you built learning Foundation will be useful. That's why we are building a system for getting Foundation certified.
Being Foundation certified means you have evidence that you know Foundation and can implement Responsive Web Design. It will separate you from the herd of designers, especially those who don't code and don't get Responsive Design. You will add your Foundation certification to your portfolio or resume that few other designers or engineers will have. Link your "My Forum" page which displays your points, as well as your certification. A hiring manager can see actual problem solving and how you approach problems. Your profile will be found when employers Google your name.
We want to build a community around responsive design, which includes designers ready for hire. Every day we have companies seeking someone who can rebuild their site responsively, update their existing site, or help them through a full responsive re-design and coding. Having certified people for these companies to hire will build a stronger community.
What goes into Foundation Certification?
Supporting your peers on the Foundation Forum is the best way to learn new skills, tricks, ways of doing things that you may not have known before in addition to new, better design practices. This is the best place to learn from each other and teach your skills to people. This will reinforce the skills you gained and give yourself a chance to prove yourself. The more people who click the helpful button on your responses, the more credit you get. Problem solving on the Forum will gain you points, which demonstrates your skills. To complete certification, we created a Foundation Test. Someone who earns 150 Forum points and passes the test, gets certified. 150 Points + passing the Foundation Test = Foundation Certified.
We all know demonstrating code skills to employers is important. It teaches people to balance business goals, user goals, technical feasibility. That is why problem solving on the forum is a great way to demonstrate these skills. Teaching other people on the forum will help strengthen your skills and give new perspectives. After you've earned 150 points, you can complete the Foundation exam which we wrote for this purpose. That's what it takes to be Foundation certified. When you are ready for the exam, email [email protected] for details. We want you to support your peers on the forum, get helpful points, and pass the Foundation exam. We want you to be Foundation certified to show off your proven skills that will benefit your career.
