When I cracked open my Chinese fortune cookie at lunch the other day, I got the fortune you see above. Reading it, I was struck by how much it reminded me about what we do as product designers, how we solve problems and rid ourselves of rotten ideas quickly.
We harp on the power of iteration and prototyping at ZURB all the time. It's not a complex concept, but it's often misunderstood by many of our customers and clients. Many companies get stuck thinking that prototyping slows their product development process down. Initially, momentum can feel stalled by prototyping, but what it gets you is clarity in solving a problem.
In the web world, our aim is to get to good answers quickly. To understand what works, we need to remove answers that are clearly wrong. I often joke with people in the office when solving interaction problems that I don't know the answer, but I know 99% of the time what not to do.
Think of prototyping as a way to discover errors in your thinking — it will save you the heartache of developing products that never really solve a problem.
